El Rio is a film-essay about the power of ideologies. Taking the example of Simón Bolívar, the mythical hero of Latin American independence, as a starting point, we see how the most triumphant of men can be transformed into the most defeated and vice-versa; and how a falsified narrative of history is always necessary to manipulate the masses.
